Carrie trained as a graphic designer
and then worked in publishing and as a package designer for several
years. She became involved in teaching, and is currently a part-time
lecturer at an art school.
In the last ten years, she has
worked as an illustrator, producing work for many book and magazine
publishers. Painting grew from this interest, and now occupies
a large part of her time. During the last few years, she has had
work accepted for several London exhibitions, including the Royal
Watercolour Society, the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters,
and the New English. She has recently had four painting projects
included in Watercolour Masterclass by Design Eye
Publishing.
Her paintings are usually based
on drawings from her sketchbook local landscapes, formal
gardens, views from the train window and the sea at Cornwall,
which she often visits. When back in the studio, she uses watercolours,
gouache and acrylic paints to produce her paintings. Although
initially derived from the landscape, the paintings take on an
air of fantasy and unreality as she experiments with colour, tone
and composition to express emotions and feelings about the place.
